dust storm (by Jack)

Bonnaroo was awesome - the dust storm made it a surreal scene, like out of Mad Max. People kicking up dust to the music, sun setting behind them to make it look like a weird painting, and huge smoke rings going up in the background. This was the scene for the North Mississippi Allstars and it was crazy, cool, and dirty! Typical Bonnaroo!!

2007 Summary (by Stephanie)

Besides the dust, VIP being lame and holding back since i'm pregnant, it ROCKED. good live music can easily outweigh silly setbacks.

there are so many things we never wrote about that we should ... I'll leave that up to BC since I've already forgotten.

I guess we need to document every band we saw too. i'll leave that up to darby.

as for jack ... hmmmm ... how about if i just ask him to enter something.

friday- you ain;t got no job... (by Darby)

so- it's friday and we have seen a LOT of music today- right now TOOL is coming on and the RV is vibrating from the bass- it's actually pretty cool when you think about it- to be so close (although i don't care too much for TOOL- everyone we've talked to says they have a great live show and the lights are second-to none. anywho- J, S & BC are in the showers and i'm just reflecting on the day. Here goes:
Brazilian Girls- big gold dot
Paolo Nutitni- better than expected- funny pot song & faves
Michael Franti- unbelievable entertainer- took me to church and cleansed my soul- had the whole field jumping and waving and protesting and loving all at once- the best!
Lily Allen- opened with LDN and sang the sarcastic song I love- a good time for chick-power. plus she's so cute- smoking cigarettes and drinking jager(?) a real rock star
The Black Keys- it;s amazing how so much sound can come from 2 guys- they rocked and played several of my faves
Manu Chao- we caught him from the comfort of the Brooer's tent where we drank some micro's and saw the passing Busker Parade- chicks on stilts! good stuff.

VIP dinner- less that impressive leftovers from lunch and some wacky soy energy snacks that looked like space food- whatever.

now a little relaxing before late night stuff- i;m saving up to get the led out tonight for superjam!

the RV windows are rattling from the ATOOL onslaught!

current assessment (by Quackers)

so far things are pretty smooth here so far. as for the action i see on the roof - besides long lines and everyone bitching that VIP stands for "very irked people", all is well. i saw one naked guy strolling around and several cross-eyed stumbling folks, but nothing unusual. i think i'll fly over to the kiddie pool i see in a bit to cool off and hang out with those other colorful duckies.

no internet (by Stephanie)

still no internet, except on my Q. it'll be hot today, which means i take the squirt bottle thingy time gave us everywhere i go. as for the VIP thing this year, so far i'm kinda disappointed, but whatever. it's easy to be a critic since it was perfect last year. i'm really happy w/ this rv though, & the AC rocks.

as for the schedule today, we'll be jumping around to every stage but the main one. tool sucks in my opinion, kinda like those loser ohio state fans across the road from us.

ok - time to try napping. i have a hard time sleeping here ... what a shocker!

day 1 (by Stephanie)

the adventures have begun! not only was our tent up within an hour, but it blew backward over the RV within the next hour! these spurts of gusty wind are enough to send anything thru the air ... pretty wild. so once we were set up we went for our 1st stroll to check everything out. funny how most of the vendors are the same, but they can't sell illegal paraphernalia this year. the REMOTELY enforced is legal drinking age. there's no ID check at all. other than that, the rules get tighter every year - inevitable i guess. the ferris wheel ride was really cool, but the huge dust cloud was kinda creepy.

so tonight we're going over to the VIP tent for dinner and then a private show - pretty freakin cool. there are others playing afterward on the smaller stages, so i'm sure we'll check those out too. and yes DAD, i promise i'll take it easy. perhaps i'll stay behind and place some orders from the "LITTLE HIPPIE - the child that rocks" catalog!

jackass (by BC Taylor)

Arrived last night at the VIP check in around 3 a.m. thanks to Jack's RV skills and Darby's delirium. Jack and BC head for Starbucks since we can't brew our own (first technical difficulty). Steph via cell phone orders 80% skim milk, organic regular coffee, shot of hazlenut (not sugar-free, b/c "sugar-free makes you !@#$ your pants"). Confusion sets in when the barista asks, "how many shots-we normally put 5 in a venti." Jack panics, collects himself, then calmly orders 3 shots. His confidence is then shaken when he can't remember if organic coffee is good or bad for his unborn child. If he'd only read Natural Mother with a Blackberry one more time. When asked for the name of the customer, I blurt out, "Jackass". The wait is on...
